This grassroots education program serves the Kansas City area to build awareness of the connection between diabetes and vision loss. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss in Americans under the age of sixty, and Alphapointe is committed to educating the community on how to both avoid and decrease the risk factors for developing diabetes. Alphapointe provides direct services, outreach and education directly to high risk individuals through events and mailings. Case management aids clients in procuring inexpensive or no cost adaptive diabetes management equipment, as well as to assist with healthy lifestyle choices like diet and exercise.
